Abstract
838,225. Gas purifying devices. BERZ, M., and BERZ, W. Oct. 19, 1956 [Oct. 25, 1955], No. 31887/56. Class 8(2). In a gas filter, dust laden air passes upwards through at least two screens, each supporting a layer of loose material, accommodated in a frame 2 mounted on ball bearings 8 ; the cleaned air emerges into chamber 5 which is sealed from the lower chamber 3 by either an elastic washer 14 or a yieldable substance e.g. glass wool. The filter is cleaned by shaking the filter layers the dust being collected in the lower part of the chamber 3. The filter layer may comprise gravel distributed over the screen in a plane layer. Several 'chambers may be arranged with a common outlet, each chamber being provided with an isolating valve closed during the shaking period. A conveyer may be arranged to collect and discharge the dust. A large scale plant, Fig. 5, comprises two series of frames 2 with superposed screens, dust laden air admitted at 23 branches into ducts 24, 25, passes through filter layers and the cleaned air is collected through conduits 6. The layers may be subdivided by cross pieces to assist cleaning and the fillers may be of various materials and shapes ; when gravel is used for filling minimum size is 3-6 mm. and 25 mm. is considered a satisfactory maximum.
