Headed stoppers 2 from a shoot 3 are carried in recesses 5 in a plate 4 towards bottles 1 carried by conveyer 8 and aligned with recesses 5 by a notched plate 6, the stoppers being raised as they approach the bottles and then lowered again by a cam surface 10. A plunger may force the stopper home at the end of the cam surface, in which case parts of plate 4 are retractible at that point.
