Abstract

838,059. Protective containers for fragile articles. BULPITT & SONS Ltd. Dec. 11, 1956 [Dec. 19, 1955], No. 36255/55. Classes 18 and 66. Means for locating a fragile article in a container comprise a resilient ring positioning a comparatively stiff locating member having a portion bearing on the article. The containers described are intended to pack articles under vacuum conditions and have an outer screw lid holding in place a pressure resistant lid 11 having a sealing grommet 13, and an air withdrawal aperture closed by a plug 15. In one embodiment the locating member 21 carries a resilient bearing element 23 which engages the upper end of the article 18. The resilient ring 27 is gripped between the member 21 and the turned-over rim 17 of the container. A tab 28 facilitates the ring's removal. The article is further located by a resilient ring 19 In a similar embodiment, Figs. 3 and 5 (not shown), a polythene or like tube depends from adjacent the periphery of the locating member and has an enlargement at its lower end bearing on the article. In a further embodiment the locating member is a polythene or like ring 42 having internal projections 45, 46 engaging the top rim 44 of the article. A ring 41 supports the base of the article. Air passages 50, 51 ensure exhaustion of air from all spaces.
