In order to facilitate removing an animal from a cattle crush, the exit door is placed in one side and forms one side of the neck yoke. The end wall 5 extends partway only up the height of the pen so as to leave an opening through which the animal can thrust its head. A yoke member 30, pivoted to the upper bar of the wall 5, serves to hold the animal's neck against the upright 18 of the door 4 when this is held closed by latch members 10, 11, pivoted at 10a, 11a. The door forms the forward part of the side wall 3 and, when released, tends to swing open partly owing to the animal pushing it and partly owing to a spring 27. The yoke 30 is retained in the gripping position by a pawl 32 and the latch 10 may be secured by a pivoted locking plate 41. An end bar 28, engaging in slots 29, prevents the animal backing out of the crush and, if desired, an additional holding bar 36 may be engaged between slots 38 on the upright 18 and hooks 40 on the side members 20.
