Class 44 In a lock, for example a padlock, Fig. 2, having a shackle 18 which is held in the locked position by a spring-loaded latch 22, a casing 10 houses a primary barrel lock 25 and a secondary barrel lock 32, and the barrel 34 of the latter has mounted thereon a disc shutter 40 which covers the key slot of the lock 25 when the lock 32 is in the locked position. The barrel locks 25, 32 are so interconnected that upon rotation of the barrel 34 in one direction the key slot of the lock 25 is uncovered by an opening in the shutter 40 being aligned therewith, and upon insertion therein of the appropriate key and rotation of the barrel 34 in the other direction the shutter 40 again covers the said key slot and the lock 25 is operated to release the latch 22. The interconnection between the locks 25, 32 is by a link 46, Fig. 5, pivoted at one end 47 to an arm 48 extending from the barrel 34 and having its other end slotted at 50 to receive a pivot pin 52 of an arm 54 extending from the barrel 26 of the lock 25. The slot allows rotation of the barrel 34 in the said one direction, and the link end 47 passes over a dead-centre position to prevent the lock 26 from being operated by the key, the insertion therein of which allows the barrel 34 to be rotated in the other direction. The barrel 26, 34 of the locks 25, 32 each has a plate fixed to its inner end and recessed for co-operation with a fixed pin to limit the rotation of the barrels in both directions. The locks are normally locked against rotation by longitudinal and radial key releasable tumblers, Fig. 12 (not shown). Either or both barrels 26, 34 may be provided with meter recording mechanism 70 for registering the rotation of the barrels. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown), permitting the use of the two keys for the locks 25, 32, respectively, when they are attached to the ends of a lanyard, the casing 10 and the shutter 40 are slotted to permit passage of the lanyard when the keys are inserted in their respective slots.
