Abstract

640,247. Revolving barrel locks. GILJE, A. Dec. 6, 1946, No. 36155. Convention date, May 18, 1942. [Class 44] A safe lock comprises a guiding piece 2, Fig. 5, fixed to the inside of the safe door 1 and a horizontally slidable bolt carrier 3 which may be locked to the guide piece 2 by four spring-actuated pin tumblers 4 which are slidable in holes in the boltcarrier 3 and project into corresponding holes in the guide piece to engage with slidable pins 8. A barrel 12, provided with a row of holes for the pin tumblers, is rotatable about a cylindrical projection 6 on the guide 2, this barrel being locked to the guide by means of a second set of spring-pressed pin tumblers 15, Fig. 1. arranged displaced at an angle, preferably 90 degrees to those of the main lock. When the barrel is locked to the guide by means of the pins 15, the pins 8 of the main lock press against the front edge of the projection 6 so that access to the main lock from outside is prevented until the barrel is unlocked and rotated through the necessary angle. The pins 15, when projecting in locking position into the barrel hole row, engage pins 7, one of which has a recess into which a third set of pin tumblers 19, 20, substantially perpendicular to the other pin tumblers 4, 8, 7, 15 project, to prevent rotation of the barrel 12, even when pins 15 have been pressed back correctly. The key 17 has notches 18 in one of the pins to engage with the pins 19 when the key pins are pushed into the barrel holes. The pins 19, 20 are thereby pushed outwards against their springs until their contacting surfaces are flush with the slide face between the barrel 12 and the fixed member 16, so freeing the barrel for rotation, the barrel being provided with guide slots for stop screws to limit the rotation. The cover 5 of the bolt carrier 3 has attached to it a pin 9 which projects into a hole in the locking bolt 10. The bolt being slidable in guides, not shown, may be moved by an exterior handle when the bolt carrier 3 is not locked to the guiding-piece 2.
