Abstract

A dentrifice includes an organic phosphate, or water-soluble salt, thereof of formula <FORM:0837121/VI/1> where R1 is an alkyl group, one or both of R2, R3 is H(CF2)2nCH2 with n being 1 to 5 and any other of R2, R3 is hydrogen, an alkyl or aralkyl group, preferably having 12 to 16 carbon atoms or an alkali metal or an "ammonium ion," or of formula [H(CF2)2nCH2O]xPO(OM)y n being 1 to 5, x = 1 or 2, y = 3 - x, and M being hydrogen, an alkali-metal or an "ammonium ion," and including the trifluoroalkyl esters when x = 3. "Ammonium ion" means NZxHy, x being 1 to 4, y = 4 - x and Z is an alkyl group having 1-22 carbon atoms; an alkanol group having 1-6 carbon atoms; an alkyline mono- or polyamine group having 2-8 carbon atoms; an aryl group or a substituted aryl group where the substituent is alkyl having 1-9 carbon atoms or is hydroxyl or halogen; an aralkyl group where the alkyl has 1-5 carbon atoms; an alicyclic group having 6-11 carbon atoms. Compounds enumerated include 1,1,7 - trihydroperfluoroheptyl phosphate and its ammonium salt; ammonium di - (1,1,3 - trihydroperfluoropropyl) phosphate; tri-(1,1,3-trihydroperfluoropropyl) phosphate; diammonium 1,1,11 - trihydroperfluoroundecyl phosphate. The compound may be used at between 0.05 and 2.0% by weight of the dentifrice. Examples are given of toothpaste, powder and liquid formulations.
