Abstract

835,262. Unwinding wires. ETABLISSEMENTS G. DECOMBE. June 12, 1956, No. 18142/56. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXII] Apparatus for successively unwinding at high speed and without interruption wire wound on flanged spools 3, 5 comprises support means, preferably stub shafts 1a. 1b, adapted to support the spools 3, 5 and maintain them stationary at locations on opposite sides of a plane in which is a guide 6 coaxial with the spools, and casing means 9 surrounding the spools 3, 5 to limit ballooning of the wire and having an opening 10 or openings to enable the trailing end of wire on one spool and the leading end of wire on another spool to be connected together externally of the casing means 9, so that on completion of unwinding from one spool the wire on the next spool can be unwound in continuation of the wire on the first spool. A loose disc 4 on each stub shaft facilitates unwinding. The casing means may consist of two casings each surrounding a spool, and joined by an element slotted to join the openings in the separate casings. The separate casings may be coaxial or inclined at an angle to each other.
