[Also in Divisions D1-D2] A cable manufacturing machine has an endless belt 16 that is carried by rollers 11, 12, 13 and encircles the wires 2 of the cable in a manner forcing them together. The rollers 11, 12, 13 are on rods 9, 10, 10<SP>1</SP> carried by a disc 7 that rotates coaxially with respect to the cable. One or more of the rollers 11, 12, 13 may be driven to cause the belt 16 to perform a positive or negative twisting effect on the cable. Within the disc 7 is a lay-plate 1 that oscillates to provide alternate S- and Z-lays to the wires 2. A binding strap 15, supplied from a guide 14, is applied in the form of a helix to the clamped together wires 2. Endless belts 5, 6 pull the cable through the machine. Fig. 2 (not shown) shows the means whereby the various components of the machine are driven and interrelated, and such that the lay plate 1 oscillates about its axis.
