Abstract

834,116. Preparation of paper pulp. BAUER BROS. CO. Dec. 5, 1957 [Dec. 17, 1956], No. 37936/57. Class 96. In pulping wood chips &c. and extracting liquid therefrom, the chips &c. are delivered by a screw conveyer 43 to a hopper 38 wherein contra-rotating twin screws 45 force the chips downwardly towards the down-turning side of a spiral screw 35 in a tapered casing 36 in which the wood chips are compressed and liquid is drained from them through slots in the casing. The chips &c. are thus fed into a cylindrical casing 60 where they are further compressed and crushed, and further liquid is extracted from them, due to the action of blades 51 on sleeves 50 keyed to a rotating shaft, the sleeves being of successively greater diameters and being spaced by plain, frusto-conical sleeves 52, the end sleeve 52<SP>1</SP> being secured by a cap nut 58 and a clamping ring 80 so formed as to pull out the end sleeve 52<SP>1</SP> and clear accumulated solids when the cap nut 58 is unscrewed for dismantling. The machine is driven by motors 1 and 46, belt 4, pinion 9 and gear 30 &c.
