Abstract

Grape stalk-removing machine of the type comprises a horizontal, rotary drum contg. a coaxial, helically-bladed beater shaft which first crushes the grapes in a sleeve section of the drum and then sieves juice and seeds through a screen section of the drum before ejecting waste pulp at a discharge section remote from the feed end of the drum. Diversion of any required proportion of the pulp is possible form its normal exit to the collecting channel for juice and seeds proceeding for processing; this is achieved by adapting the drum to move axially away from the discharge section to provide an annular escape gap discharging into the collecting channel.
