Abstract
1,005,081. Paper-making apparatus. GEORGE SCOT & SON (LONDON) Ltd. March 11, 1963 [March 19, 1962], No. 8102/62. Heading D2A. [Also in Division B2] A process for fibrillating fibrous materials and separating foreign material therefrom, comprises feeding liquid and the fibrous material into a fibrillating apparatus and then centrifugally discharging the liquid together with the foreign matter and separately discharging the fibres. As described bagasse material is supplied to the apparatus either from a bale breaker (Fig. 3 not shown) by a screw conveyer, or from a pulper (Fig. 4 not shown) through a liquid conduit. The apparatus has a material inlet 11 and a water inlet 25. Hammers or radial arms 14 are either pivoted or fixed to a rotor 13 suspended from bearings 17 and driven by a motor 15, and may be arranged to form a helix with additionally or alternatively the arms so shaped to assist or retard the downward flow of material. The rotating arms 14 break up the bagasse and cause the bagasse pith and water to be centrifugally discharged through a cylindrical screen 12 while the bagasse fibres assisted by jets of water 27 pass down through a passage 20 to a screw conveyer (Fig. 1 not shown).
