Abstract

1297019 Grain cleaning machines BUEHLER AG GEB 14 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 48790/70 Heading A2Q Grain is cleaned by a wet or a dry method in a machine comprising a hollow cylindrical rotor 50, Fig. 1, mounted on a vertical shaft 4 and surrounded by an apertured, cylindrical sleeve 13 enclosed in a housing 1a, 14, 1b supported by three columns 3. Grain and water, or grain alone, fed to an inlet 12 pass to the lower end 9 of the rotor where blades 11 cause an upward conveying action to the main part 8 of the rotor where the grain is scrubbed and cleaned against the sleeve 13 and waste matter and water, together with air drawn into the rotor through an inlet 21, are passed through the apertures in the sleeve to fall downwardly through an annular space 16 to an outlet 19. The cleaned grain emerges at an upper outlet 23. Water for cleaning the machine may be supplied through nozzles 24a at the upper end of the space 16. When the machine is operating by the wet method, the waste from the outlet 19 passes to a collecting basin 25, Fig. 3, with drain 26, but for dry operation a connector (not shown) is fitted between the outlet 19 and an extractor duct 27. In a modification, the central opening in the basin is connected to a dry waste extractor and is closed by a conical cap during operation by the wet method, the waste passing to an outlet offset from the centre of the basin 25. For dry operation, this cap is removed and a connector is fitted between the outlet 19 and the central opening in the basin. The main part 8 of the rotor, shown in cross-section in Fig. 8, comprises longitudinally extending, hollow vanes 33 fitted with blades 36 having leading portions 37 lying in planes normal to the axis of rotation and inclined trailing portions 38.
