Abstract

833,540. Filling containers. WOODALL-DUCKHAM CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. April 24, 1958 [May 31, 1957], No. 17449/57. Class 94(1). A device for filling containers with powdered material comprises a twocompartment hopper with nozzles 16 extending beneath each compartment, the arrangement being such that powder flows through the hopper into a can until the nozzle is blocked by the rising level, the powder then filling the respective compartment and flowing into that adjacent. On the container being lowered, the powder in the compartment and nozzle flows into it and is just sufficient to fill itto the desired extent. The described embodiment is of duplex form comprising four compartments 11-14 and two platforms 25, 26, each supporting two containers. The platforms are raised and lowered by foot operated levers 33 and are held in raised position by trip members 43. Clips 29 on members 27, 28 secured to the platform, assist in locating the containers. Powder is supplied through a pipe 21 attached to a slideable cover plate 19. The pipe may be arranged to deliver powder to either pair of compartments 11, 14 or 12, 13. With all containers in position powder is supplied to compartments 12, 13 until the nozzles 16 are blocked and it runs into compartments 11, 14. The platform 26 is lowered, the pipe 20 having been moved to supply compartments 11, 14, and the filled containers are removed. Fresh containers are brought into position before the compartments 11, 14 overflow.
