[Also in Group X] Window frames 1 are moulded from a moist powdery concrete mix compactable by high speed vibration or tamping along with pressure. The rectangular frames are reinforced by metal strips 2, 3 having their broad faces parallel to the plane of the frame. The strips are welded together as shown so that the portions 8, 9 abut the walls of the mould and centre the strips in the frame. Preferably the frame is formed with an interior ledge 13 formed with screw holes 14 countersunk into the frame wall as at 15, Fig. 6. The mould, Fig. 8, consists of metal frames 25, 26 secured on a base plate 27 which may be slid over the bottom casting 28 of a press. A rectangular frame 29 shaped to correspond with the underside of the window frame is removably placed between the mould walls. In order to mould a semicircular groove in the outer face of each wall of the window frame each mould wall carries a rotatable rod 34 circular in cross-section where it passes through the mould wall, semicircular where it lies adjacent the material to be moulded. The press carries a platen 35 on which is secured a frame 36 having the shape of the upper part of the window frame. The projections 37 mould the holes 14. A vibrator 38 is secured beneath the plate 27. During the moulding process the rods 34 are turned so that the semicircular sections project from the walls of the mould. When the process is completed the rods are turned so that these sections be flush with the mould walls and the plate 27 moved so as to bring the mould over ejection pins 39 which are then operated. The window frame is kept on the frame 29 until the initial setting of the concrete is complete and may be placed in a wooden jig during this time.
