Abstract
Crystalline dihydrostreptomycin sulphate is produced by adding at an elevated temperature a concentrated aqueous solution of dihydrostreptomycin sulphate to an aqueous solution of methanol containing, for example, 15 to 40% by volume of water and especially 30%. The aqueous solution of dihydrostreptomycin contains 150,000 to 500,000 and especially 300,000 units per ml. The temperature is 40 DEG to 70 DEG C. and the mixture is maintained at this temperature by heating the mixture or by adding heated aqueous dihydrostreptomycin sulphate. Preferably the aqueous methanol contains an amount of seed crystals of dihydrostreptomycin sulphate equal to about 1% of the expected total yield of crystalline dihydrostreptomycin sulphate.
