Abstract
Crystalline glucosaccharolactone containing an enhanced proportion of 1:4-glucosaccharolactone is obtained by cooling a concentrated aqueous solution containing a mixture of glucosaccharic acid and the 1:4- and 3:6-glucosaccharolactones to a temperature below 25 DEG C. and seeding the solution with crystallized 1:4-glucosaccharolactone. The starting solution is preferably evaporated to increase the concentration prior to refrigeration. After removal of a first crop of crystals, the mother liquor is re-cycled for incorporation with a fresh batch of aqueous starting solution. Specification 870,051 is referred to.
