Abstract

831,720. Fire-extinguishing. KRONENBURG N. V. GEB. Sept. 23, 1958, No. 30428/58. Class 47 A fire extinguishing installation comprises a high pressure plunger pump 5 the inlet of which is connected to a water reservoir 1 and the outlet of which is connected to one or more mist sprayers 8 and to an overpressure valve 11 in a return pipe 12 leading back to the water reservoir 1, and a low pressure foam generating installation connected with the high pressure outlet of the pump 5 through a pressure reducing device. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the pressure reducing device through which the foam generating installation is connected comprises a high pressure injector 15 which induces further water from the reservoir 1. The injector 15 is connected to a low pressure injector 18 in which saponin from a reservoir 19 is induced into the water stream which flows to a foam gun 22. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the overpressure valve 11 acts as the pressure reducing device, the foam generating installation being connected to a branch pipe 25 leading from a point in the return pipe 12 downstream of the overpressure device 11 and upstream of an overpressure device 24 which acts at a lower pressure than the device 11. The branch 25 includes a valve 26 and the low pressure injector 18 which delivers water and saponin to the foam gun 22.
