Abstract

A separating agent for foundry moulds and cores is prepared by forming a stable water-in-oil emulsion of a refined mineral oil fraction which burns without leaving a residue and an aqueous solution of inorganic salts is incorporated in the emulsion to produce a composition containing by weight 51.5% water, 40% of the oil, 4% sodium chloride, 2% ammonium sulphate, 2% aluminium sulphate and 0.5% of a non-ionic emulsifier. The oil is preferably one boiling in the range 250-350 DEG C. at 20 tons and is emulsified with a chemically inactive water-in-oil emulsifier which burns without leaving a residue. The emulsion may be stabilized by homogenizing simultaneously with the incorporation of an aqueous solution of the aqueous solution.
