Abstract

A medicament for treating flatulence comprises an aqueous emulsion of dimethyl polysiloxane, very finely dispersed silica, and glycerin mono-stearate or a mixture of glycerin mono- and di-stearates. The aqueous emulsion, which is of lard-like consistency at ambient temperatures, may be formed into tablets with conventional tabletting ingredients or it may be diluted with water, without breaking the emulsion, to provide a liquid preparation. The aqueous emulsion is made by preparing a melt of the dimethylpolysiloxane, silica, and glycerin mono-stearate with or without glycerin distearate, adding hot water and stirring until a stable aqueous emulsion is obtained.
