Abstract

Compounds, other than ethylene, containing the non-aromatic polymerizable >C=C< group are polymerized using as catalyst an organic peroxy compound and a tetrazene. Specified tetrazenes are tetramethyl tetrazene-2, tetraethyl tetrazene-2, N,N1-azopiperidine, N,N1-azo-tetrahydropiperidine, N,N1-azo-morpholine and sym.-dimethyl diphenyl tetrazene. Specified peroxides are benzoyl peroxide, lauroyl peroxide, di-tert.-butyl peroxide, di-isopropyl peroxydicarbonate, di-tert.-butyl peroxydicarbonate, tert.-butyl perbenzoate, peracetic acid and cyclohexanone peroxide. Specified polymerizable compounds are vinyl ester, e.g. vinyl acetate, allyl ester, styrene, chlorostyrenes, acrylic esters, crotonic esters, maleic esters, fumaric esters and vinyl chloride.
