Abstract

830,746. Non-linear networks. KELVIN & HUGHES Ltd. April 2, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 19659/56. Class 40 (8). [Also in Group XL (c)) A voltage-sensitive network, forming part, e.g., of a T/R system, comprises two impedance elements of opposite signs connected across the input and a non-linear impedance connected across one of the impedance elements. As shown, the non-linear impedance takes the form of a silicon carbide resistor 20 whose resistance at low voltages is much greater than the reactances of inductor 16 and capacitor 17 and much smaller than these reactances at high voltages. The resistive part of the impedances of the two elements is much smaller than their reactances which are arranged to be equal in magnitude at the operating frequency. It is shown in the Specification that the input impedance of the network is low at low input voltages and high at high input voltages. The network, moreover, provides a voltage gain at low input voltages. The output of the network may be connected to a high-gain amplifier 15 and the input to a transmitter 10 and a T/R transducer 12 via a three-winding transformer 11.
