Abstract

Interpolyamides are made by condensing hexamethylene diamine with a mixture of adipic and isophthalic acids containing from 51 to 80%, by weight, of adipic acid and 49 to 20% by weight of isophthalic acid. The example describes the condensation in aqueous solution of the three reactants in an autoclave in the presence of nitrogen. The products of the invention may be moulded or extruded into tubes, strips, unbreakable bottles and tubular films. The Specification describes the degradation of the interpolyamides to hexamethylene diamine hydrochloride, adipic acid and isophthalic acid by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid.
