Abstract

829,695. X-ray tubes. HILGER & WATTS Ltd. Nov. 14, 1957 [Dec. 17, 1956], No. 38401/56. Class 39(1). An aperture in the wall of an X-ray tube is sealed by a window which is pervious to X-rays, and an impervious shutter having a corresponding aperture can be moved so that the two apertures are brought into or out of register. In the form shown, the tube wall 1 has an aperture 2 closed by a thin aluminium window 4 fitting within a recess 3. An air-tight seal is provided by a rubber ring 5, which is compressed against the window and the recess by a bush 6. A metal shutter 7 opaque to X-rays slides in an undercut slot 8 in the tube wall, and has an aperture 9 which can be brought into or out of register with the aperture 2, thus permitting or cutting off the emission of X-rays as required.
