Abstract

The invention comprises cyclopentanophenanthrene compounds of the formula <FORM:0829680/IV (b)/1> wherein X represents a halogen atom, e.g. chlorine or bromine, and R represents an acyloxy radical, e.g. the benzoyl radical or an alkanoyl radical such as an acetyl radical, and the preparation thereof by reacting 3,20-diketo-11b ,17a - dihydroxy - 21 - acyloxy - allopregnane with a halogenating agent that does not give halogen exclusively in the form of negative ions such as bromine, N-bromo-amides, chlorine, N-chloro-amides and t-butyl-hypochloride. In the example, 2-bromo-3,20-diketo-11b ,17a -dihydroxy-21-acetoxy-allopregnane is prepared.
