Abstract

In a multi-stage flash evaporator having three or more stages each comprising a flash chamber and an associated heater or vapour receiver and an ejector for supplying steam to a live steam heater, the suction side of the ejector is connected to an intermediate stage of the evaporator so as to entrain brine vapour therefrom and deliver such vapour to the live steam heater. The evaporator may have considerably more than 3 stages, in which case the suction side of the ejector is connected to the heater or vapour receiver of one of the last few stages. The evaporator may also have at least two fresh liquid heaters which operate at highest temperature.
