Abstract

Linear aromatic polyester textile materials are dyed by the dispersion dyeing method, the dyebath containing a phosphoric acid ester containing at least one hydrocarbon radical having at least 7 carbon atoms. Esters of pyro-, meta-, polybut preferably ortho-phosphoric acid, including primary, secondary and tertiary esters, may be employed. The esters may be derived from aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic mono- or poly-hydroxy compounds, and the hydrocarbon radical may be linked indirectly to the phosphoric acid residue through a hydrophilic bridge derived from sorbitol, erythritol, glycerine, glycol, polyglycols, amino-alcohols or their polyethers, the hydrocarbon radical being bound to the bridge by an ester, ether or amide link. Specified esters are the primary oleyl-tetraglycol-, oleyl-octaglycol- and dodecyl-tetraglycol-, the secondary dodecyl- and the tertiary dodecyl-tetraglycol- and oleyl-octaglycol-esters of orthophosphoric acid. Dyeing may be effected with azo, anthraquinone and naphthaquinone dyestuffs, several of which are specified, and also with 2 : 4-dinitro-4-hydroxydiphenylamine, in the presence of carriers such as diphenyl, hydroxydiphenyl, chlorobenzene, benzoic acid and esters of benzoic or salicylic acid. Dyeing of polyester fibres in admixture with wool, cotton, silk, linen, regenerated cellulose, regenerated protein, acetyl and triacetyl cellulose and wholly synthetic fibres may be effected.
