Abstract

The invention includes the d- and l-isomers of 2 - amino - 1 - (3,4 - methylenedioxyphenyl)-propane and acid addition salts thereof. The compounds of the invention are prepared by resolution of the racemic hydrochloride with optically active tartaric acid, and, if desired, converting the base into an acid addition salt.ALSO:The invention includes a pharmaceutical preparation having ataractic activity, in dosage unit form, comprising a pharmaceutical carrier and 2-amino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)-propane or its non-toxic acid addition salts, the base being in either its racemic or optically active form. Dosage unit forms may be tablets or capsules and the carriers may be solid (e.g. talc, corn starch, lactose, ethyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, agar, pectin stearic acid, gelatin or acacia), or liquid (e.g. water, peanut oil, olive oil or sesame oil). Typical salts are the hydrochloride, citrate, acetate, lactate, salicylate, tartrate, ethanedisulphonate, sulphamate, acetylsalicylate, succinate, fumarate, maleate and benzoate.
