828,742. Magnetic powder clutches and brakes. ELEKTRO-MECHANIK G.m.b.H. July 3, 1957 [July 27, 1956], No. 21098/57. Drawings to Specification. Class 35. A magnetic powder clutch or brake, of the type having a variable magnetic field and non- conducting slots in part of the magnetic circuit for eddy current suppression, comprises a ferromagnetic annular element of channel section containing an energizing winding and having radially-extending slots lying in planes containing the axis of rotation, the magnetic circuit being so arranged that the flux passes through the magnetic powder to a second concentric clutch element. The slotted exciting element may be the driving or the driven element and the slots may be filled with selfhardening mouldable resin.
