Abstract
1,127,628. Magnetic clutches and brakes. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 30 Sept., 1965 [1 Oct., 1964], No. 41489/65. Heading H2A. In a hysteresis type clutch or brake, the energizing magnets 20, 21 are placed with like poles substantially facing each other across the air-gap, so that the working flux travels through the hysteresis member 23 in a circumferential direction. The hysteresis member is polarized so that its preferential magnetic direction is circumferential and it may be magnetically saturated in use. The relative angular position of the magnet members is adjustable to vary the transmitted torque by varying the degree of saturation. The device may be of radial or axial type. The hysteresis member may be of Alnico or ferrite, and the magnets may be of ferrite or electromagnets may be used.
