Abstract

828,516. Inking-apparatus. KRAWEHL, R., and EIFLER, W., [trading as WESTFALENDRUCK G.m.b.H. & CO. K.G.]. March 20, 1958 [March 21, 1957; Dec. 11, 1957], No. 8932/58. Class 100(2) In a doctor blade mechanism for attaining uniform ink passage between the blade and a printing cylinder, the edge of the blade is held in longitudinal resilient engagement with the cylinder by a plurality of pressure members resiliently acting on the blade, the pressure members being guided for movement independently of each other in a substantially perpendicular direction relative to the blade, and their resiliency being produced by a common adjustable resilient pressure medium acting on all the pressure members. A plurality of pressure members 9, 9<SP>1</SP>, Figs. 1 and 2, are accommodated in a slot in a longitudinal flange 8 of a tube 7 supported on arms 5, 6 secured to the shaft 1 of the doctor blade 4. In the tube 7 is a rubber tube 13 connected through a check valve 14 to a compressed air supply and bearing against the pressure members. The tube 7 is placed in position by means of co-operating surfaces 17, 18 and turned through approximately aright-angle by a handle 19 to a position wherein it is locked on the arms and accurately defined by an adjustable screw 23, and wherein the members 9 are aligned with the blade 4 near its end. In operation, the shorter end members 9<SP>1</SP> engage the blade, the members 9 being thus forced some way back into the tube 7. In another form, Fig. 3, the compressed air is supplied to a tube 30, and each pressure member comprises a cylinder 33 extending into the tube 30 and containing a piston 40 protruding therefrom and carrying a pivoted pressure plate 44 for contacting the blade 46. A rubber tube 47 with one end closed is placed over the top of the piston 40, folded upwards inside the cylinder 33 and down and outwards over its edge, so as to form an airtight seal. The effective area of the piston exposed to the pressure is thus the same in all positions of the piston.
