Abstract

1,027,473. Printing apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK WINKLER, FALLERT & CO. A.G. Jan. 16, 1963 [Jan. 17, 1962], No. 1914/63. Heading B6C. An offset cylinder comprises a carrier 1, a segment 4 supported by the member 1 and pivoted at 3, and a rubber blanket 5 secured over the operative surface of the segment 4. The cylinder is provided with an hydraulic piston and cylinder unit 10, 7 adapted to pivot the segment 4 and blanket 5 to an inward inoperative position if not article, such as a tube or a strip of polythene or paper, is presented for printing by a turret &c. at the printing station. The flow of fluid through the connections 13 and 14 is controlled by a mechanism which may be operated by a scanning device. In normal operation the segment 4 is held by a spring 16 against a stop 15 with the blanket 5 in the printing periphery 6. The segment may alternatively be pivoted by pneumatic or mechanical means. The segment may be formed of two interconnected parts so that the pivoted unit may vary in size and may be used as a registering device.
