Abstract

<PICT:0828377/IV (a)/1> Consolidated sheet or strip is produced continuously by compressing wood chips between platens, of which at least one is reciprocated toward and away from the other, and of which one at least is of such a form that chips fed between the plates are progressively compressed. The material to be consolidated is fed between a stationary flat bottom platen 10, with sides and a reciprocable upper platen 11 actuated by a hydraulic ram and having a bottom pressing surface partially flat, as at 12, and part curved, as at 13. A carrier band 15 feeds material to be compressed.
