Abstract

828,175. Vehicle mirrors. SMALLBONE, H. P. May 6, 1958 [June 24, 1957], No. 19770/57. Class 103(2) A rear-view mirror d, Fig. 1, attached by a base a and arm b to the exterior of a vehicle, is mounted in a holder e which also carries wind-driven vanes h whereby the mirror is rotated about a central spindle f secured to the arm b to fling off rain or snow by centrifugal force. An annular housing k connected to the arm surrounds the vanes to concentrate the air stream on the vanes. In another embodiment, a spring-urged wiper block m, Fig. 3. is movable to and from an operative position against the mirror d by a spindle n in the housing k. The spindle f has limited axial freedom relatively to the arm b and is spring-loaded at r so that the air pressure acting on the vanes h, when they rotate, advances the mirror sufficiently for the wiper blade to act thereon.
