827,343. Feeding webs. CALICO PRINTERS ENGINEERS Ltd. April 16, 1958 [Dec. 11, 1957], No. 38448/57. Class 100(1) In an apparatus for treating webs, e.g. of fabric, of the type in which the web passes through a plurality of baths and is fed by pairs of rollers, each pair of rollers is driven through two pulleys at least one of which is a cone pulley, a belt passing around the pulleys being movable in response to a change in position of a compensating roller engaging the web to increase or decrease the speed of the rollers. As shown a web b is fed by rollers C<SP>2</SP>, C<SP>3</SP> driven through an inclined cylindrical pulley F and a coned pulley F' connected by a belt d<SP>2</SP>. A compensating roller B on an arm d rocks an arm E carrying a belt guiding roller D<SP>2</SP> through a link d<SP>2</SP> upon movements, due to variations in web tension. Weights G and g' counterbalance the arms d and E respectively. The initial tension may be adjusted by a weight H slidable in arm E or on the arm d. In a modification, the axes of the pulleys are parallel and the belt is tensioned by a jockey pulley. In a further modification, both pulleys are cone pulleys.
