Abstract

827,218. Shutters. MICKLEOVER TRANSPORT Ltd. Nov. 7, 1957 [Dec. 5, 1956], No. 37221/56. Class 20(3) [Also in Groups VIII and XXXII] A flexible shutter is formed from a corrugated strip of plastic reinforced with glass fibres. Formulae are given appropriate to strips of different maximum widths. The shutter may be transparent. A vehicle body comprises two layers 25, 26 of plastic bonded fibre glass separated by a foamed plastic material 27. An opening 11 is cut in a wall of the vehicle and the foamed material inset from the sides of the opening enabling channel guides for the shutter to be fitted. The inner layer 26 is cut away from the body roof an area slightly less than that of the shutter and channel guides fitted along the sides. The roof opening is then closed by a plate 28. In a more conventional vehicle body an L-shaped channel is fitted on each side of the wall opening, or the guide may terminate in a helix, or the shutter may be wound about a spring roller. As shown in Fig. 6, detent means for the shutter comprise a spring weighted roller 29 bearing on the corrugations of the shutter 18.
