[Also in Group XXIX] An "O" " or D-sectioned resilient sealing ring 2 for valves has a single peripherally continuous flexible lip 1 projecting in the upstream direction for engagement with the base 9 of its locating groove 3, which may be provided with drain-holes 10, 11. The lip may be in the form of a truncated cone or a thin flash adjoining the base of the D-section. The groove 3 may be of a width sufficient for the D-section with an undercut to accommodate the lip, or it may be wide enough to accommodate the ring and lip. The interior surface of the lip may be conical or cylindrical; if cylindrical, the bottom of the groove is made conical. Sealing between lip and groove may be ensured further by a garter spring which may engage a groove on the free side of the lip; according to the Provisional Specification an " O "-ring may be used in addition to the lipped ring, located in a separate groove.
