Abstract
826,888. Heat exchangers. ROSENBLADS PATENTER A. B. Jan. 3, 1958 [Jan. 7, 1957], No. 276/58. Class 64(3) [Also in Groups H and XXVIII] A heat exchanger in which two fluids exchange heat in flowing through passages separated by a heat-conducting wall is so arranged that it may be turned on an axis and the pipe connections leading the respective fluids to and from the heat exchanger interchanged, the arrangement being such that at least one of the fluids may thereby have its flow direction through the heat exchanger reversed or it may be caused to flow through the fluid passages in the heat exchanger previously traversed by the other fluid. The invention is described particularly in its application to plate and tubular heat exchangers in which one of the fluids deposits sediment or sludge in the fluid passages through which it flows. By a reversal of flow or interchange of fluid in these passages the sediment or sludge may be flushed to waste. Fig. 11 shows a typical form in which when the heat exchanger 1 is turned on the pivot 8, the connections such as 2a, 2b for one fluid normally coupled for example to respective connections 12a, 12b, may then (as shown) be coupled to connections 12b, 12a respectively to give a reversal of fluid in the passages served by connections 2a, 2b or coupled to connections 13a, 13b to change the fluid flow direction in these passages.
