Abstract

826,865. Valves. KIDDE CO. Ltd., W. July 5, 1957 [July 16, 1956], No. 21957/56. Class 135. A gas-release valve for a storage container, e.g. carbon dioxide bottles for life-saving equipment, has a valve body in which a valve member 9 is adapted to be pressed against a seating, comprising an apertured washer 4 held in place by a plug-like member 6, by gas pressure in the container. The stem 15 of the valve member which passes sealedly through the plug member 6 is actuated by a valvedepressing member 22 having a threaded shank engaging within a threaded portion of the body and a pulley 26 coaxially mounted, e.g. on the hexagon head 25, for longitudinal but non- rotatable movement with respect to the valve depressing member. Rotation of the pulley by means of a pull cord 28 having one end projecting through an aperture in the body causes actuation of the valve. The projecting end of the pull cord is sealed within a flexible conduit to prevent water entering the pulley housing and detent means 33 are provided for engaging the pulley when it is in the actuated position to prevent closure of the valve due to gas pressure acting on the valve member.
