Class 64(1) In an apparatus for the recovery of waste heat from boiler flue gases, the gas stream from the boiler F is divided into two branches one of which passes through a rotary regenerative air preheater L2 and the other of which flows through the boiler economizer E2, the two gas streams being reunited and directed through a second rotary regenerative air preheater L1, the heaters L1, L2 being combined as two-stage rotary regenerative apparatus in a unitary structure. On the air side of the heat recovery unit, a duct KM may be provided for withdrawing a portion of the air (e.g. for use in coal pulverizing mills) after it has been passed through the heater L1 and before it reaches the hotter stage L2. In a further form described, the economizer E2 is combined with the air heating units in the unitary structure.
