Class 100(1) The apparatus described is the same as that in Specification 826,647 wherein the tension of a web is maintained at a desired value during the splicing of a new roll by a brake responsive to a signal from the running web tension control system, but the claims are directed to web splicing apparatus in which a paster carriage is retracted to its inoperative position if the positioning switch for causing the pasting carriage to be driven to its operative positiontion, is released before it reaches the operative position. Specifications 743,351, 826,648 and 826,649 also are referred to.
