Class 100(1) The apparatus described is the same as that in Specification 826,647 wherein the tension of a web is maintained at a desired value during the splicing of a new roll by a brake responsive to a signal from the running web tension control system, but the claims are directed to a web splicing apparatus having a paster carriage movable from a retracted position to an operating position by a fluid pressure actuator under the control of a main valve in which a pair of safety valves between the main valve and the actuator can be controlled by a deflectable member to trap fluid in the actuator and stop retraction. Specifications 743,351, 826,649 and 826,650 also are referred to.
