Abstract

<PICT:0826400/IV (a)/1> An apparatus for applying binding agent to wood chips comprises a chamber 18 having an inlet 23 for the wood chips and an opening 24 at the side to admit air from a blower 17 whereby fine chips are carried by air blast farther across the chamber 18 than are coarse chips, the chips falling through a plurality of discharge openings 25, 26, 27 into drums 19, 20, 21 in which they are circulated by the air blast and simultaneously sprayed with binding agent from jets, there being more and larger jets in drum 19 than in drums 20 and 21 whereby the coarser chips receive more binding agent than the finer chips. In a modification a single drum has its longitudinal axis transversely disposed to serve all the discharge openings.
