[Also in Group XXIII] A method of cooling a workpiece 2 in a machine-tool such as a grinding or milling- machine, comprises sprinkling the work and possibly the tool 4 at a predetermined distance from the area of contact 8 between the tool and work, in the zone 9 wherein the metal particles are projected, by means of a curtain of liquid 11 flowing in a direction substantially at rightangles with the workpiece surface and extending perpendicularly to the direction of propagation of the particles, and being wider than the tool. The liquid is directed from a sprinkler 10 which is connected by a pipe 12 to a liquid supply, and extends across the width of the tool 4.
