780,560. Machine-tool details. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Nov. 15, 1955 [Feb. 17, 1955], No. 32580/55. Class 83 (3). A smoke-suppressing accessory for a lathe, milling-machine &c. comprises a liquid-distributer 15 from which flows a curtain of liquid 19 to surround the end of a tool 11, and suctionmeans 18 for drawing smoke from within the curtain. Collapse of the curtain due to the suction is prevented by supplying air through a pipe 20. The tool is cooled by fluid from a pipe 10 and from a thin jet 22. In a modification, a liquid-jet 27 creates suction in a central-pipe 24. The fluid-curtain is supplied from the hood 15 and the tool is cooled by a thin jet 22 as before. Additional cooling-fluid is supplied by pipes 28, 29. Specification 727,691 is referred to.
