Class 3(2) A character for use in an illuminated sign comprises a transparent or translucent character face provided with an edging having a lower degree of light transmission in order to give a shadow effect. The two portions of the character may consist of contrasting electro-luminescent layers. The character may be made of methyl methacrylate coloured as desired and secured to a box-like casing by screws engaging blocks cemented to the rear of the character face.
