Abstract
A refractory body comprises 90-96% silica bonded by 4-10% (as P2O5) of a silicon phosphate having a greater water resistance than prismatic hexagonal silicon phosphate, and is obtained by mixing silica with either meta-, pyro-, or a phosphate salt and ortho-phosphoric acid and heating to at least 680 DEG F. Small amounts of e.g. lime and alumina may be present.
