Abstract

Olefines are polymerized using a catalyst as disclosed in Specification 785,314 and in an inert solvent boiling below 40 DEG C., the solvent being vaporized after polymerization, e.g. by reduction of pressure, to separate the solvent from the polyolefine. The olefine may be ethylene, propylene, butene, styrene or mixtures thereof, and the solvents specified are paraffinic hydrocarbons of up to 5 carbon atoms, e.g. propane and butanes, and inert olefines such as isobutylene. The solvent may reflux during the polymerization and, further, vaporized solvent may be reliquefied and recycled. Optional promoters, addition of ingredients during polymerization and applications of products are as specified in Specification 785,314. In examples alcohol is used to deactivate the medium after reaction. Specifications 757,524, 762,200, [both in Group IV (b)], and 783,487 also are referred to.
