Abstract
Metal powders with a grain size of less than 1m are produced by slowly oxidizing the metal powder to oxide at a temperature not exceeding 500 DEG C., and then slowly reducing the oxidation product at a temperature not exceeding 830 DEG C. in a reducing gas such as hydrogen. The oxidation-reduction may be repeated to produce a grain size less than 0.3m . The process is applicable to the production of powders of tungsten, molybdenum, cobalt, nickel and iron.
