Abstract

823,371. Capacitors. HUNT (CAPACITORS) Ltd., A. H. Feb. 10, 1956 [Feb. 10, 1955], No. 3982/55. Class 37. A capacitor has a moulded tubular case with two terminals of opposite polarities extending from the same end thereof, the said end being so shaped as to provide a firm seating for the capacitor on a plane surface but having a portion thereof recessed so as to leave a gap between the end of the case and the surface, when the capacitor is mounted thereon, at a situation between or surrounding the terminals. Thus when the capacitor is mounted on a panel with its terminals projecting through apertures to make contact with a printed circuit on the side of the panel remote from the capacitor, the terminals being secured to the printed circuit by dip soldering, the gap prevents solder from creeping through the holes and between the upper surface of the panel and the end of the case by capillary attraction to short-circuit the capacitor. Figs. 2 and 4 show two alternative end views of the capacitor, which may be wound from metallized dielectric, the terminal wires 13, 14 being separated by recessed portion 16. The end face of the capacitor may alternatively be of concave form.
